Once yours, now mine.

Words: Isla Rose Perkins (she/her)

I remember the smell hitting my nose

as soon as I stepped foot,

in.

A play for the senses to take character of.

Every corner crowded,

Overladen.

Fingers foiled with metal bangles, sharp,

Tarnished, over-loved, yours,

Mine.

Door teeming with paintings staring at me –

Once loved, Once theirs, now Mine.

Please.

Eyes darted to the shopkeeper to ask;

‘Once theirs, now mine?

Okay.

Thank you.’

They are loved now. I promise, new meaning

– maybe – but isn’t that lovely?

Yes.

I think so.

Passing on stories guessed, more time to each artefact of life.

Once yours, now mine. Thank you.
