Words: Amber Gray (she/her)

Your hands the image behind shut eyes,

your skin frustrates epilepsy between birch veins

essence of you remains

Alive in the creatures that resemble you,

pearl painted pebbles

your touch is reduced to the translucence of your memory

Everywhere and nowhere at once

Insatiable hunger for eternal life consumes me

greedily

reminding me of my fate unforgivingly

Time a mirror, delicate, dizzying

at the knowledge of passing decades my heart drops,

A sand timer

Clay hardens and water stands still

preservations distance tires decay

fabrics discolour and fray

moments vaporise and suffocate,

I implore you to charm me with forever and always

empty promises that sedate me

Anatomy competes with immortality

as the circle of life reaches totality

flesh and blood run its pigment,

turned fruitless

in preparation for demise,

towards the vast inevitable

face to face with the reality of being human

that holds the power to possess
